DEFINITION

Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) refers to the smallest number of units or total volume a contract packaging partner requires to accept and run a single production order.

Understanding MOQ

MOQs are established by manufacturers to ensure that the time, labor, and changeover costs associated with setting up a production line are financially viable. Running very small batches often results in higher per-unit costs due to these setup requirements.

For brands and CPG companies, understanding a partner’s MOQ is critical when launching new products or testing markets. Choosing a co-manufacturer with flexible MOQs allows brands to scale operations smoothly without tying up too much capital in excess inventory.

Why It Matters

The right MOQ can make a big difference in your speed to market, cost efficiency, and overall supply chain flexibility. It helps you balance production costs with demand, reduce the risk of overstocking, and gives you the agility to respond to market changes and growth opportunities.
